Can we make the world a better place? With each step, with each mitzvah, we can. The Shaarey Zedek Tikun Olam Committee offers a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the year to do just that. We challenge each community member to perform at least one volunteer activity with the Tikun Olam Committee a month and pledge to perform mitzvot everyday.

Kosher Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels of Winnipeg offer a kosher home-delivered meal program. The meals are prepared in the kosher kitchen at Gwen Secter Creative Living Centre and are delivered by members of the Jewish community each day Monday through Friday between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. We offer a hot meal, which includes soup, entree, a bread item and a dessert. The cold meal, delivered at the same time, is meant for the later meal of the day and includes a beverage, sandwiches, and dessert.

Both meat meals and dairy meals are part of a kosher menu. To keep this program affordable for all, it is subsidized by the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg. Volunteer with Kosher Meals on Wheels! Meals on Wheels rely on volunteers for the delivery of meals. Each day, Monday through Friday we need at least three volunteer drivers to deliver meals. Some drivers choose to have a server to assist with deliveries. Volunteers pick up the meals at Gwen Secter Creative Living Centre. There are two routes covering the north-end and one that travels to the southend. A token gas allowance is paid semi-annually to volunteer drivers in acknowledgment of the cost involved in volunteering. New volunteers are always welcome.
