Cemetery
The Shaarey Zedek Cemetery (SZC) and Shaarey Shamayim Jewish Interfaith Cemetery (SSJIC) located in the North End of Winnipeg on Armstrong Avenue and Main Street (230 Armstrong Avenue) just across from Kildonan Park, have a rich and beautiful history. The original cemetery (SZC) was built in the early 1900's and is dedicated to the beloved memory of all Jewish victims of both World War I and World War II, who offered the supreme sacrifice of their lives. Shaarey Shamayim Jewish Interfaith Cemetery opened in early 2012 in a separate, fenced area within the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, with its own entrance. Shaarey Shamayim was created for Jews who wish to be buried with their non-Jewish spouse, partner or other family members.
Many changes and enhancements have been made throughout the years to make your visit as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Our long time staff, tend to the grounds with the utmost respect and dignity, to preserve the atmosphere of peace and tranquility your loved ones deserve. We have provided many upgrades including landscaping and an irrigation system to assist with drainage. We have also extended and added roadways and have implemented the use of one-way roads, “no stopping” and “no parking” signs to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. All vehicles now enter through Gate 3 and exit from Gates 2.
