Stories have the great power to shape how we see ourselves and our communities. They provide meaning to our lives and helping us navigate the space between the past and the future while helping us to understand our place in the world.
While the thrilling tale of the Maccabees is incredibly inspirational, there is also the deeply spiritual and miraculous story of the oil, that burned for eight days in the newly rededicated Temple. This miracle continues to inspire us and reaffirms our connection to Hashem.
This year, as we light the Menorah, we take comfort as we draw strength from the stories of our people. We cannot help but remember the recent attacks on Israel, including the horrors of October 7th but the miracle of Chanukah reminds us that we are not alone. …It is less about the oil itself, and more about the deep, unwavering presence of God in our lives, even in the darkest of times.
Just as the miracle of the oil was a sign to our ancestors that God had not abandoned them, we are reminded that we are never alone. Even in the darkest hours, God is with us, offering a light that can never be extinguished.
As we light our menorahs this Chanukah, let the flames shine brightly against the darkness of the world, a beacon of hope, resilience, and faith that there is no distance between us and God.
May the lights of Chanukah illuminate your hearts and homes, bringing warmth, peace, and a renewed sense of connection with one another, with our Jewish community, and with God.
Here’s to a bright future for all of us!
Chag Sameach!
