Hello, I’m Kara Booth, the Director of Childcare Services at the Tova Vickar and Family Childcare Centre at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. I am classified as an ECE III, Early Childhood Educator, in Manitoba. I finished the Early Childhood Education Diploma program at Red River College in 2009 and then continued my education with a Developmental Studies Degree from The University of Winnipeg in 2011. This is where I also had the opportunity to complete the Advanced Internship in Childcare Management. Over the past 15 years I have worked with all ages and programs as an ECE. I am also currently serving on the board of directors for a non-profit childcare centre in Winnipeg.

I am a wife and mother of three. I have a strong love for the outdoors and find such a joy seeing children outside in the natural environment. I enjoy partnering with families, staff and children to create an environment that is warm, welcoming and inspiring. I adore watching how each child develops and I am inspired to question how we can play a role in their development. I consider it a great privilege to play such an important role in raising honest, healthy, strong leaders for a better tomorrow.

Hi, my name is Marina Lisak, the Assistant Director of Childcare Services at the Tova Vickar and Family Childcare Centre at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. I am an Early Childhood Educator, with an ECE III classification. I graduated from Gordon College of Education in Haifa, Israel, in 1996, and began my career working with toddlers and kindergarten-aged children. My family and I immigrated from Israel in 2004, and spent six years living in Gillam, a town in northern Manitoba, where I opened a small home daycare, growing from one child to eight over time. When we relocated to Winnipeg, I began working at Torah Tots and later became a team leader in the largest room at the Preschool in Kaufman Child Care Center. I strongly believe that each child is unique and creative. With love and patience, I believe they will grow into great people. Being a teacher or a parent comes first, and being a friend follows.

I am married and have two grown children — my daughter is 26, and my son is 19 — and we also have a dog, Goldie, who keeps us entertained. In my free time, I enjoy baking, practicing yoga and meditation, walking with my dog, and traveling both within Canada and worldwide.

Profiles on our Childcare Team coming soon

A note about Early Childhood Educators and other Childcare Centre Staff: Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) are selected on the basis of their qualifications and experience with children. It is a regulation, set by Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care, that a minimum of two-thirds of our staff be classified at an ECE II or III level. (Diploma in Early Childhood Education, or equivalent). All staff must have current First Aid and Child CPR Certification as well as a clear INVESTIGATION AUTHORIZATION from Manitoba Childcare Program that includes a clear Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector) from the Winnipeg Police Department and a Clear Child Abuse Registry Check. All employees are required to participate in some form of recognized professional development throughout the year. Thus, ECEs continue to maintain a very high level of quality care. As required by the Province of Manitoba, Child to Staff ratios at the Tova Vickar and Family Childcare Centre are as follows: Ages 12 Weeks to 2 Year Olds = 1 Staff to 4 Children; Ages 2 to 3 Year Olds = 1 Staff to 6 Children; Ages 3 to 5 Year Olds = 1 Staff to 8 Children.
